僕らはオレゴン州に住んでいる。オレゴンの州知事は民主党 (Democrat)だ。彼女は州の規則として、屋外の公共の場所で、他人との距離を取れない場合は、ワクチン接種の状態に関わらずマスクをすることを義務付けている。そしてもちろん全ての屋内もマスクが義務付けれている。
We live in Oregon, where the state governor is a Democrat. She put the rule that requires people to wear a mask in most public outdoor setting—regardless of the vaccine status—when the physical distance is not possible. And, of course, in all indoor spaces.
オレゴンの以外の州ではどうなのだろう？今回、僕らはアートショーで展示するためアイダホ州に行く機会があったので報告しよう。
But what about other states? We went to Idaho for an art show.
アートショウの復活
パンデミックの初期から僕らが通常参加するアートショーは全てキャンセルとなった。しかし、今年の夏の頭からたくさんのイベントが始まった。参加した人たちによるとかなり良いとの事。
Since the beginning of the pandemic, all the art shows that we usually participate had been canceled, but starting the beginning of the summer, many of these events started happening. And they seem very successful according to our friends.
アイダホ州のCovid ガイドライン
僕らも２週間ほど前にボイシー美術館の主催するアートショーに参加することにした。僕らにとってはパンデミックが始まって初めてのアートショーだ。それに州知事が共和党である州を訪れるのもコロナ以来初めてだ。
We decided to go to an art show ran by Boise Art Museum a couple of weeks ago. It was the first art show in the pandemic for us. Also, it was the first time to go to a state where the governor is a Republican.
アイダホ州の州政府のコロナ予防のマスク着用ガイドランを調べてみた。
I looked up the guidelines from Idaho state government about mask wearing rules.
CDCのガイドラインに準拠したマスク着用を「強く推奨する」とある。しかし州の規制としては、長期看護施設以外でのマスクの規制はない。
They “strongly encourage” wearing mask, as per CDC guideline. But there is no mandate as the state rule, except for long-term care facilities.

イベント会場、ダウンタウンでは？
アートショーはボイシーのダウンタウンの近くにある公園で行われた。外ではあったが、混雑していることもあった。そして６フィートの間隔を空ける事が出来ない状況もあった。
The art show was held in a big park near downtown Boise. It was outside, but it was crowded at times. There were situations that you couldn’t keep the physical distance of 6ft.
しかし、マスク着用率はおよそ15から20パーセント。公園内の混み合った公衆トイレ内でもマスクをしていない人が沢山いた。
But mask wearing rate was about 15 to 20%. Many people didn’t wear a mask even in the crowded public bathroom in the park.
地元の地ビールパブに夕食に行く。客どころかウェイトスタッフすらマスクをしていない。ダウンタウン店の中にはかなり混雑している店もあった。
We went out for dinner at a local brew pub. Even servers weren’t wearing a mask, let alone customers. And some establishments were packed.
まとめ
ビジネストリップとしては成功だった。再びアートショーに参加して、人々がアート買いに来ているのを見るのは久しぶりのことでとても良かった。しかしコロナに関する人々の警戒心や州政府のガイドラインの違いを見たのは驚きであった。州によってコロナの状況が全く違うのは当たり前である。
It was a successful business trip. Nice to do art show again and see people buying art after such a long time. But it was surprising to see the differences of the levels of people’s precaution and governmental guidelines for Corona virus. No wonder we see such different situations all over the States.
