Finally, they started coming up here in Oregon. Yes, I am talking about Matsutake.
オレゴンでもついに出てきた。マツタケです。
The rain makes mushrooms grow: 雨が降るとキノコが育つ
After the Fall rain starts the mushroom season will come. I have been picking chanterelles, but now I started seeing matsutake.
I check many places that look almost identical to the place where I find matsutake, but I find them only at one specific location.
秋の雨が始まるとキノコの季節がやってくる。シャントレルマッシュルームはすでに摘んでいたけれど、最近マツタケも出てきた。
マツタケが採れる場所と全く同じような場所をチェックしているのだけれど、一箇所でしか見つからない。
Association between mushrooms and trees: キノコと木の関係
As the name suggests, matsutake grow near pine trees. Here in Pacific Northwest, they are associated with Douglas fir and western hemlock.
The symbiotic relations between trees and mushrooms are intriguing. They help and communicate with each other through their roots and mycelium systems.
名前で分かるように、マツタケは通常松の木のそばに出る。パシフィックノースウェストのこの辺ではダグラス・ファーやウェスタン・ヘムロックと関係がある。
木々とキノコの相利共生の関係は興味深い。根と菌糸体と通して助け合い、交信するのだ。
The fruit: 果実
The mycelium underground is like a body of plant. And mushrooms we pick are like fruits.
They have spores that travel in the air and spread. Every time I pick a mushroom I tried to tap the caps to release the spore so I will have more in the future.
But unfortunately, the matsutake patch doesn’t seem like spreading.
地面の下の菌糸体は植物の本体のようなもので、採る部分のキノコは果実に相当する。
キノコには胞子があり、空気中を漂い拡散する。将来にもっと採れるように、キノコを採った際にはカサを軽く叩いて胞子が広がるようにしている。
でもマツタケの場所は広がっている様子は残念ながら無い。
identical = 同一の indentify とは一致するか確認すること。身分証明書の「I.D.」はこの言葉からきている。つまり本人と「同一」であるかを確認するのだ。
specific = 特定の specify は特定する。例：You can only smoke at specific places.
