Night Sky– the darker, the better. 暗いほど良い夜空

One of the things that I love about living in the mountains is to be able to see the stars clearly at night. When the condition is right it is almost unbelievably beautiful.

Remote location: 辺鄙な場所

Our house is located about 75 mile east of Portland, which is the only major city around here. And there are some small towns along the coast but the rest is the Pacific Ocean.

The Milky Way: 天の河

I don’t remember being able to see the Milky Way from the places where I grew up in Japan. In the Tanabata story we learned about the two stars across the Milky Way but I couldn’t picture the river that separate them.

Amazing thing: 驚異的なもの

Now I can see it so clearly across the sky. And the Summer Triangle–Altair, Deneb and Vega. The longer you stare at the sky the more stars appear. It is so wonderful to be able to see such an amazing thing!
