It has been almost a month since we started “staying in shelter”. Since our supply of fresh vegetables (beer etc.) had gone low, we ventured out to the town of Seaside.
新型ウイルスのため自主的に外出自制し始めてから約１ヶ月弱。野菜（ビールなど）が無くなりかけていたのでシーサイドの町まで買い物へ出かけた。
結構車が走っていた
There were definitely fewer cars on the highways than usual. Especially for the first spring-like beautiful sunny day on the coast. But there were more cars than I thought.
ハイウェイではいつもより断然、車の数は少なかった。特に今年初めての春のような暖かい、素晴らしい天気の海岸沿いにとってはだ。でも僕が想像したよりも車が走っていた。
Beaches were all closed off, but many businesses were still open along the main highway. Essential services, like fuel stations, take out only restaurants and grocery stores.
ビーチは全て閉鎖されていたが街道沿いの店は結構開いていた。必要最低限のサービス、ガソリンスタンドや、テイクアウトのみのレストラン、食料品店は開いている。
マスクは？
Recently the government started encouraging people to wear masks in public. Our friend made us one the other day, so we wore it. About one third of people were wearing one.
ここ数日になってアメリカ政府はマスクを公共で着用することを勧め始めた。友人が手作りでマスクを作ってくれたので僕らも着用した。約3分の1の人がマスクをしていた
在庫は？
There was plenty of food. Toilet paper shelves were full too.
A few items were out, like organic butter and tofu, but I don’t think it was because of the pandemic. And my favorite beer was there, thank god!
食料はふんだんにあった。トイレットペーパーの棚も空いてはいない。
オーガニックのバターや豆腐など、2、3の物が無かったが、それはパンデミックの影響ではなさそうだ。そして僕の最近のお気に入りのビールはしっかりあった。よかった！
まとめ
Our county has 5 virus cases. And we haven’t seen it increase for several days. Despite the devastating news from New York and other hot spots, our local community seemed ok.
Social distancing is working, I suppose.
僕らの郡（カウンティ）のウイルス感染者数は５人。ここ数日、数は増えてはいない。ニューヨークやその他のホットスポットからの惨状のニュースに関わらず、地元の街は大丈夫なようだ。
ソーシャルディスタンスが効いているのだろう。
